Title Frames of Trailer

In our trailer production we realised in all major trailers there was a use of title frames that break up a trailer and consist of text telling a story or adding to the story that is already being told on screen. For our production we have used title frames to add onto the story as well as giving the trailer an added creepy affect with the viewer reading the title frames. Our title frames were broken down into five title frames and all together read out “What would you do if your home became your worst nightmare? These title frames are then concluding by the film’s title ‘The Intruder’. The title frames have been edited in Photoshop with a brush tool to give them a worn away effect with pieces of the text missing to give it an older more ancient feel to it. To conclude the title frames ending one Nightmare is in a red giving it a creepy ending feel instead of using the same white text for all of the other title frames.

Billing Block

My media products will include a Billing block which is a block of text giving credit to those who were involved in a production with such titles as the producer, director and main actors. This is seen in every major film to come out into a market and seen in all products such as the movie poster and trailer. I researched into Billing blocks when looking at all key elements of a movie poster which was one section of poster I researched into. For our media products like the trailer we have used the Billing block to display all that were involved in the creation of the production. As well as the trailer I have used it in the poster I have created as this is the product that would be used in the market to promote the actual production promoting it in many different areas such as billboards, transport vehicles and cinemas.

Movie Magazine Inspiration

When researching into horror magazines, I have researched similar styles of horror magazines such as the ones shown below called Fangoria. It was necessary for me to research such genres as tthis magazine because if I was to research into other genres like comedy then this would make my magazine not effective to its target audience. These genres of magazines would have different conventions compared to other genres like comedy films. I recognised such conventions as bold texts, strong use of colour schemes and images that are weird and creepy to the eye. Fangoria is the brand I chose to research for my magazines for their use of these creepy images and outstanding colours they have used in their front covers. The first one I researched into was the Fangoria with the insidious issue. Fangoria have used a different style of text with using both edges of the text as a point for fangs which are linked with vampires which resembles the villain in films.

The next section about their front covers I will incorporate into my magazine front cover is the colour scheme , shown in these two they keep their colours to three main with red, white and black. Something I will carry on into my magazine as I believe this is effective, without keeping g to an overall colour scheme would leave my audience to question the magazine because using random colours would look unprofessional and confusing. I have implemented this colour scheme to my magazine front cover and also follow the one we have used in the trailer and also my other media product the magazine poster which follows this colour scheme as well. My main image for my front cover will be such as the style and positioning like seen in my research. Fangoria uses bold images which help the magazine to stand out from others in this genre. This kind of image which has been used in my research is bold and creepy at the same time, both front covers have used this style of image of one image and not multiple which may clutter the front cover, so using one image is what I will use in my front cover to make my front more effective.

Movie Poster Inspiration

When researching into movie posters I looked for similar posters in the horror genre and looked for characteristics of these. There are clear differences from other genres like comedy for one example being they are brighter in colour to attract the reader to it. Horror posters come in many different styles and the one I will be discussing about is the Strangers poster. The Strangers is about a couple who are living in a house in the middle of nowhere when their house is broken into by three strangers. I came across three posters from this film but I chose to use the Spanish for its use of two photographs and combing it into one to give it a creepy affect with the strangers standing over them. I have used this as inspiration in designing my poster combining two images. I am obviously not going to copy the movie poster but will take inspiration through the layout of images in the design of my poster. The main image is of the Intruder in the white mask looking straight into the distance. With the smaller image of the two teenagers who’s house is entered by the intruder. I have strategically placed the intruder on top as it is the first place where the reader will see in the poster so this will be the main focus of the poster. The main image being the intruder also works as it is seen to be on top and watching over the two teenagers like he has in the trailer when intruding in the house. I have used the image of the two teenagers looking out to the distance which is appropriate as they would be doing this when looking out for the intruder. This can also be seen in the stranger’s poster below with the female character looking out as well which is emphasised with her head being at a tilted angle to show she is focusing on something in the distance. I like this idea with the photography of the character as it gives more story and thought to the character instead of a normal plain picture, this develops the story giving more clues about the film and what they may be experiencing for example with the strangers someone breaking into your house. I have edited both images giving them a darker tint then instead of using the raw file which would not have been effective in looking like a horror poster, so to add to this adding the darker tints this makes both images more serious and dark which will appeal to the audience of horror fans because it would be pointless using bright happy colours when the genre is around darker terrifying colours.

Magazine image change

After reviewing and testing images of what they would look like in my magazine, I am now going to update and change this image to a new one. I did not think the main image was appealing and interesting to our chosen genre. To act on this I will now organise a new opportunity to which this new image can be taken. I was not happy with how the image was just centred in the page and after moving the image around I found it did not really work. This was backed up after showing it to family members which agreed, so I will now take more images when possible which can work as a final photo for my magazine.

Marketing

Marketing a film has changed over the past few decades with advancing tech technologies such as internet accessibility becoming available on many devices. Well established production companies will spend millions to get their films noticed by the public, most recently like the up and coming sequel of Chucky which featured a life size doll running around pranking people of the public. This kind of marketing is beneficial if it is to go viral over YouTube which in this case it did getting this being our film would be marketed on many different platforms. Our film company Logtlight productions does not have the financial backing as other Hollywood films which make millions each film, so to act on this other forms of marketing will be taken up to get the public aware of our production.
The first way would be through Social Media sites as Facebook and Twitter. Every major film that is released will now establish some kind of social media site to get the ball rolling in informing the public about the film. Getting a social media site to go viral receiving millions of likes will bring future business to that film company with future releases. A social media site such as Twitter can create more awareness of that production through the use of Hash tag. With people using a hash tag in a tweet with the films name can get the film trending around the world. An example of this would be the film sharknado, once the trailer was released on YouTube the ball started to roll, people only became aware of this film through hash tags trending about the film. This is most defiantly a positive to anyone who uses it to promote their film as it lets people know your film by sharing links such as a trailer on a social media site. Another example through twitter would be staying in contact of fans, this can be highly beneficial too by asking for fans feedback on a trailer that you may post. Having responses to this can enhance your film by using critics to better your film. Our film will use such social media sites as these to help promote the film and also the film company. The last way of marketing our film will be through the use of YouTube, free to use this ideal as it cuts down costs to promote the film through a trailer online. Being a small film company the finances would not cover alternative ways to show the trailer e.g. TV or in Cinemas. As well as the trailer our company could produce a public stunt which could go viral giving our channel millions of views broadening our market position in the horror film market.

Distribution

Distribution would be carried differently compared with a well-known horror franchise such as Paranormal Activity. High earning movies will have distributors in many countries such publicise the movie being distributed to hit a wider audience  As Loftlight productions is a new production company to the Horror genre it is not as well known, this being the film The Intruder it would be an independent film. This is an important section of the film as it is the stage in which the film is released out to the public.

With our production being a first it would be down to marketing to help the production company and also the film title to become well-known. Distribution could be managed through online by a company like Netflix in which the film would be viewed by a wide audience as it has become more popular over the past year to use this service.  Having it on this website for a discounted price would allow a wide audience to view it for a discounted price which would also attract people as they may be price conscious, all of this would be in place just to get the film’s title out there to the public.

Poster Text Design

For my poster I have used a text and the once it is in place I flipped the text 180` so that the top half of the text mirrored the bottom half of the text. I have used the same dark blood red on my text as in my magazine. As you can see from the screen shot below of my text the text I have used is Perpetua Titling MT which is a close style of text Times New Roman a text I wanted to use in my products because of its sharp edges giving it a bold and long edge to the text. I have used a light effect to this text instead of using a bold effect. I have altered the colours in the text from a normal bold white with the normal red and changed this to a dark blood text which is relevant to the actual production which includes blood.

Devil Due Marketing Strategy

New horror movie for January Devils Due has come out with a YouTube hit called Devil Baby Attack. This follows the same media attention as the other horror movie Carrie using a public experiment to drum up attention. This new video features a baby in a remote controlled pram driving around New York and scaring the public.

This becoming an online trending topic this is highly beneficial to the films marketing department as much more people will view the viral video through numerous social media sites. The whole idea of a baby in a pram comes from the plot of a devil baby being born to a newly married couple, which they then realise something is not right with the baby. This video has already become viral hitting 20,820,000 views on YouTube being out a day, the film is to be released on Friday the 17th with the high percentage of views from this viral video Devils Due is expected to well on its release date.

Movie Poster Mock up

To help me prepare for the overall design of my movie poster I have created a mock up to show where about certain features of the poster will go. The image below shows the simple mock up for the poster showing the areas and the design I will carry out when designing my poster in Photoshop. I have created this mock up in Publisher using tools such as Rectangle and rounded Rectangle which demonstrate every area that will go into my final edit of my poster. I have placed the main image in the centre of the page as this is the object that will attract a viewer to it grabbing their attention with this image.

Movie Magazine Mock up

After carrying out research on similar magazines in my genre of horror such as Fangoria issues, I have created a simple mock up in Publisher to display my magazine with the use of shapes. I used this to identify where certain sections of information and text would be place in my front cover.  below is my magazine mock up, it is not my final version i will most probably be making final changes to alter it to a specific way. I will however stick to this layout to a point when in Photoshop, I believe this layout is effective as it will clearly show the necessary information such as the movie title and the main image which is also connected to the movie. After researching similar genre magazines I listed all the essential extras to my magazine which would make it look more like a real magazine which would be sold. such extras include the magazine issue date, this is to simply notify the reader the date in which it was published. secondly was the magazines website. The majority of magazines in my research had this included and is another extra i will include as it is another type of media the audience can stay aware of news and other story's that this magazine may publish online.

Movie Magazine Text Ideas

In my magazine I have used a variety of texts including Perpetua Titling MT and Castellar. The use of these different texts can be seen in my other ancillary tasks such as my movie poster. I have kept the same texts styles throughout as using multiple different ones would look unprofessional to the reader and would look confusing as the reader would see different texts and believe it is a different film altogether. Overall I believe the choice I have mentioned of text I will use is appropriate because it is a legible text meaning that it is not too hard to read it.

Movie Magazine Name

Cult is my magazine name, I have chosen this for many reasons. Firstly it is a hard-hitting name, recognised in a horror genre. I believe this will identify new customers who will view the name and be able to see its genre. Secondly it is a bold name 'CULT' which I believe is a name that appeals to many fans of a horror genre. I chose it because it makes you think about what you are reading so this can be beneficial to my horror magazine. I had originally called my magazine Frame. However I have changed it because Frame did not respond well when I showed the name to friends for their opinion. So as stated above I have updated and changed the name to Cult.
